Dr. Littenberg has been a member of the Dept of English and Humanities at FSC since 1991. She has a B.A from Connecticut College, an M.A. from Ohio State University, and a PhD from Stony Brook University, all in English and American Literature. Her scholarly interests focus on American women writers, particularly women nature writers. She has published on Sarah Orne Jewett and other nature writers, including Henry David Thoreau and Rachel Carson. While at Farmingdale she has developed some popular courses, including New York City and the Arts, Fantasy in Film and Literature, Science Fiction in Film and Literature, and Voice of Black America (currently taught by Prof. Whitfield). Dr. Littenberg hopes to offer a learning community/linked course with Dr. Stephen Patnode in the fall of 2012 focusing on environmental themes. Dr. Littenberg's interests in the environment are more than just academic, as she is an avid kayaker, hiker, and eco-traveler. Her newest interest is aerial fitness, acrobatics on silks. Cirque de Soliel has not been calling for a job interview however.
